A rental unit with an appealing view of Minato Mirai that had gone untenanted due to a poorly balanced layout. Removing the partitions to make it a studio, we set a loft bedroom with a 1.5m ceiling at the height of the bay window, using the space beneath it as large-capacity storage.

A Loft Renovation for Enjoying the Night View While Lying Down
A room with a bay window commanding a view of Minato Mirai. Though the conditions were good, it was a rental that had gone untenanted because of a poorly balanced layout—not enough storage, a cramped living room, and only the bedroom oddly spacious. So we removed the partition between living room and bedroom to make it a studio, and set a loft with a 1.5m ceiling as a bedroom at the height of the bay window. One can enjoy the Yokohama night view while lying down, and by making the space beneath the loft into large-capacity storage, we made up for the storage that had been lacking.To address this, we removed the partition between the living room and bedroom to transform the space into a cohesive studio. In alignment with the bay window’s height, a loft with a 1.5-meter ceiling was created to serve as the bedroom. This design not only allows the resident to enjoy Yokohama’s evening cityscape right from their bed, but also resolves the storage shortage by turning the space beneath the loft into a generous, high-capacity storage area.
